What is M4L Day?
M4L Day (Mustangs for Life Day) is a 24- hour giving day event designed to bring together alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends to support SMSU developments and invest in current and future students. This year, the event will take place on May 1st.
What is the goal of M4L Day?
The goal of M4L Day is to raise $125,000 for SMSU!
Why give on M4L Day?
Our current and future SMSU students are encouraged and challenged in the classroom, on the playing fields, and through a variety of activities that need our support. The campaigns that are currently available will allow continued growth in their academic and professional careers. M4L Day is about coming together as the "Mustang Family" and showing our support by spreading the word through your social networks or monetarily on May 1st, 2025.
Can I give through a Stock, Donor-Advised Fund (DAF), IRA Distribution, or Wire Transfer?
Yes, you may give before the event to have it count toward the day of giving. You can contact the SMSU Foundation Office at 507-537-6266.
Could I make a recurring gift?
Yes, please contact the SMSU Foundation and we can assist in you in setting up your "monthly donation".

Who can participate in M4L Day?
Any individual may donate. Donations through M4L Day to the SMSU Foundation are tax-deductible and irrevocable (donations will not be refunded). Contributions may be made via credit and debit card only.
How do I make a donation?
On May 1st, 2025 click “Donate” to support the Southwest Minnesota State University Foundation. If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to Mightycause’s friendly customer support team here.
Is there a minimum or maximum donation?
The minimum donation is $10. There is no maximum donation limit.
How much of the donation will go to the organization?
The nonprofit organization will receive the full donation, less a flat rate of 6.2% plus $0.30, which covers the credit card processing and platform fees. MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express will be accepted. All credit card companies and platforms charge processing fees; this is not exclusive to Mightycause or SMSU Foundation.
How do I ensure 100% of my donation goes to the SMSU Foundation?
Mightycause offers donors the opportunity to cover the 6.2% plus $0.30 credit card processing and platform fees. Be sure to check the box during the donation process to cover those fees.
Who will receive my contact information?
SMSU will receive contact information for donors who donate and participate during M4L Day. This information is used solely to thank the donor for participating, to provide the option to opt-in to receiving future notifications from SMSU, and to notify the donor of future SMSU activities.
Can I get a refund?
All donations are final and cannot be refunded.
Do I need an account to donate?
No, you do not need to create an account to make a donation. However, if you plan to give multiple times during M4L Day, creating an account means you only have to enter your credit card information once. Your account also collects your receipts in one location, enables you to track your donations, review the charities you support, and update any recurring donations you have set up.
How do I get a receipt?
Upon successful processing of your donation, your receipt is emailed to you. If you misplace this email, you can view your giving history and receipts by logging into your Mightycause account, or request a duplicate receipt by contacting Mightycause support at support@mightycause.com.
